After Mr Cube’s substitute adventure put the franchise on, erm, ice for a decade, Vin Diesel’s renewed bankability following the resurgence of The Fast & The Furious series saw a reinvigorated interest in a return for the true xXx – and his ‘iconic’ fur coat!

STORY OF YOUR LIFE

Measured in tone and tempered in pace, this intelligent first contact science fiction drama – adapted from Ted Chiang’s short story by screenwriter Eric The Conjuring 2 Heisserer and directed by Denis Sicario Villeneuve – is definitely more Interstellar than Independence Day in its elegant and awe-inspiring execution. Released this coming Friday in the UK, I was granted an Unlimited Card exclusive early screening last night courtesy of Cineworld.

London, Kenya, Hawaii, Singapore… usually when you think of globe-hopping movies, you generally think of large scale, highly-kinetic adventures with many a diverse vista and exotic landscape. Despite being spread across four continents, Eye in the Sky is perhaps the most static think-piece thriller I have seen for many a year – with the starry cast largely sat in one room apiece, with all eyes on one key safe house on a dusty Nairobi street.
