THE QUIET HALF

I was well aware I had dragged my heels with my (now completed) weekly Doctor Who series ten reviews (you can read all of them HERE), but I honestly thought I was just one or two episodes shy of keeping up with Channel 4’s terrestrial UK broadcast of Hulu’s ten-part adaptation of The Handmaid’s Tale. Turns out I actually fell FOUR episodes off-pace, so the catch-up begins NOW!

In my time as webmaster of The CR@Bpendium, I have noticed that a guilty tendency of mine is to lavish blockbuster sequels in franchises I adore with 5-star ratings. The Force Awakens and Rogue One, for instance, were always destined to be looked upon kindly by me, a long-time Star Wars fan. Yet more casual movie watchers may recognise issues, however minor, with both films which would impede a perfect score in the eyes of the general public.

STEP INTO THE LIGHT

I have a lot of time for M. Night Shyamalan. While I openly acknowledge that his filmography includes some rotten clangers (The Village, The Happening, The Lady in the Water), I admire his perseverance against the grain; there is no denying he always delivers a surprising and atypical movie experience and it has become all to easy to write off his more uncharacteristic endeavours (After Earth, The Last Airbender) and overlook his immense talents and icon-acquiring success.
